The Nursery itself was established over 30 years ago by Richard Bennett and has organically grown over the years to the site you see now.
Babylon’s wild flower meadow has been slowly curated over the years to achieve the mature spaces and diverse eco system in place today. Taking at least 5 years from the initial possession of land, an old intensively farmed wheat field, to get to simply a grassy field gives you an indication of just how far Babylon has come to the wild flower meadow that wraps around the nursery of now.
A true labour of love, dedication and knowledge.
Hundreds of trees were planted in the winter of 2000 to establish the current population. Around that same time Cowslips, Ox Eye Dasies, Vipers Buegloss, Scabious, Bed Straw and Wild Carrot seeds were added. Following that we slowly add other plants to the meadow - Orchids, Honeysuckle - Wild Garlic, Snowdrops, Narcissi and Woodland Ferns. It has taken years of work to get the meadow to where it is now, a vibrant carpet of flowers, butterflies and wildlife.
